Single Tooth Implant

If you’re missing a tooth then you’re probably well aware of how your tongue gets drawn to the gap and how the space also harbors loose particles of food.

For many people a single dental implant procedure is a permanent, healthy, and indeed aesthetic alternative to a broken or missing tooth. Not only does it replace the missing tooth but also the tooth root, which means that the dental implant looks, feels and acts just like a natural tooth. If the missing tooth is from the front of your mouth, then you probably feel self conscious when you smile too.

A healthy alternative to traditional bridges and dentures

People who are missing just one tooth no longer have to rely on traditional options such as bridges which can damage neighboring teeth. Instead a long lasting solution is offered by a dental implant which has the ability to give you back your smile and your self-confidence. Bridges require the grinding down of healthy teeth on either side of the missing tooth to hold the bridge in place. This can compromise the long-term health of those teeth. In addition a bridge does not replace the root of the missing tooth and without this, the surrounding bone which once held the root in place, begins to degenerate.

Single Dental Implant Procedure

The dental implant procedure for single tooth replacement takes longer than more recognized methods but the result is a long lasting and durable prosthetic. The actual procedure consists of three main steps:

  • Placement of the implant – Anesthetic is used to numb the area and the screw like implant is placed deep into the jawbone. A period of healing is then allowed for the implant to fuse with the bone to create a sturdy platform for the tooth. Depending on the individual this can take between 3 to 6 months.
  • Attachment of the abutment – Once successful fusion has taken place, the gum is cut open to reveal the implant and an abutment or connector is screwed or cemented onto the tip of the implant.
  • Finally a custom made crown is secured to the abutment and this is color-matched to the shade and shape of the surrounding teeth.

A single dental implant not only has the ability to permanently restore your smile but will give you back your self-confidence,. Why not take that next step and contact Dr. Gohill and the team on 954-791-6666 and book a consultation today.
